This study examines whether there is a difference in satisfaction and perceptions of the residential environment and social mix between social-mixed housing complexes and rent-only housing complexes. Using data from the SH Public Rental Housing Residents Panel Survey in Seoul, the overall satisfaction, perceptions, and experiences of residents living in both complexes were analyzed. The results indicate differences in the composition of residents according to the housing types in social-mixed and rent-only complexes. Additionally, compared to residents of rent-only complexes, residents of social-mixed complexes generally evaluated the physical environment more positively. Thus, the social environment was also perceived more positively, with residents reporting better neighborhood relationships, participating in resident activities, and experiencing less discrimination. Moreover, conflicts in rent-only complexes were less frequent than previously reported. Particularly noteworthy is the positive perception of the social mix experienced by residents of social-mixed housing complexes, as evidenced by their overwhelmingly favorable attitudes toward it. These findings suggest that the residential policy of social mix is effective and sustainable in Korea.
