New classification system of Aesthetic Control Zone was introduced to Urban Planning Law in 2000, but there are still some defects for running the more effective aesthetic zoning system. The purpose of this paper is to examine the problems of Aesthetic Control Zone and to suggest the proper improvement of it focusing on Seoul City. For this study, we analyzed the current relevant aesthetic zoning system and executed expert questionary survey. The main suggestion of this study are as followings : First, it is necessary to introduce Intensive Control Area to differentiate the aesthetic control in certain area. Second, each relevant zoning should take over a portion of the aesthetic control according to their basic function. Finally, we should strengthen the co-relationship between zoning system and public street improvement projects.
